This dinner will let you help farmers affected by the Taal Volcano eruption
By Kristelle Bechayda
The eruption of Taal Volcano has brought displacement to many lives and livelihoods. For farmers, the damage is a season’s worth or for some, a year’s worth of crops, as well as livestock.
In the town of Silang, Cavite, gardens, farms, and fields were buried under layers of mud and sulphuric ash. All the vegetables and the famous pineapples, gone. There was nothing to salvage. While people are resilient, it will take a year for the soil to turn over and fully recover.?
Manila Bulletin Lifestyle food columnist CJ Juntereal saw firsthand the devastating effects the eruption has left when she visited the area last weekend. “The crops were dying, and our friends told us the farmers didn’t know what to do. They live from crop to crop, and with this one dead, they have no money to rebuild or replant,” she writes in a Facebook post.
To help in the rebuilding of the agricultural communities affected, farmhouse kitchen and restaurant The Fatted Calf will hold Rising From The Ashes, a special pop-up charity dinner on Feb. 28. It will be held at Restaurant 101 in Enderun Colleges, McKinley Hill from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m..
Reservation and pre-payment are required to secure a seat at the event, which costs ?2,500 per person. For reservations, you may contact Chef Jay Jay Sycip, or Chef Rhea Sycip.
