Over 30 cops fail physical fitness, BMI tests

MANILA, Philippines — Over 30 police officers failed the physical fitness test (PFT) and body mass index (BMI) tests held at Camp Crame in Quezon City Thursday morning.

Of the 86 officers who took the test, 32 were found to be overweight, five were obese while 49 had normal body weight.

The 86 police officers are currently enrolled in the Public Safety Officers Basic Course of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa, who was present during the test, warned that those who will fail to attain their ideal weight will not be allowed to graduate.

“Kapag nasa loob ka na overweight ka, nasa loob ka na ng program kapag hindi mo naabot ‘yung ideal weight mo, ‘yung BMI mo, ano rin, waste of time,” he said,

(When you fail to get the ideal weight and BMI when you’re inside the program, it’s a waste of time.)

Earlier this year, Gamboa said that those who will fail to reach their ideal BMI will be denied schooling needed for promotion.

They will also not be allowed to apply for a promotion.

“Kapag hindi ka umabot sa BMI mo mismo, you will not be allowed to file your promotion which is the very step in a promotional process,” he said.
